30. More Gate than City

Dio­genēs, mag­nīs portīs Myn­dī et parvā urbe vīsīs, ita Myn­diōs monu­it: “Clau­dite portās, nē urbs ves­tra ēgrediā­tur.”

Dio­genes, the famous Cyn­ic philoso­pher who sought for an hon­est man and often rebuked kings, here indulges in a wit­ti­cism at the expense of the Myn­di­ans, who had a very small city.
