Takshang (Tiger’s Nest) Monastery

Takshang is the most famous of Bhutan’s monasteries, prominent Himalayan Buddhist sacred site. Built in 1692 the temple complex perched on the the cliffside 900m above the floor of Paro valley where the only sounds are the murmurs of wind and water and the chanting of monks. The name means tiger’s nest; it was named because Guru Rinpoche is said to have flown to the site on the back of a tigres. He then meditated in a cave here for three months.
